Having learned under the British, only to serve and rarely to lead, all the civilians and men in uniform present nodded their heads in agreement. Nehru proposed, "I think we should appoint a British officer as a General of The Indian Army, as we don't have enough experience to lead the same." Soon after getting freedom from British rule in 1947, the de-facto prime minister of India, Jawahar Lal Nehru called a meeting of senior Army Officers to select the first General of the Indian army. Overall only silence makes us realize the real importance of the noises and words that we tend to take for granted. What is the meaning of pin drop silence?*įollowing are some instances when silence could be heard louder than the noise (here voice).įield Marshal Sam Bahadur Maneckshaw once started addressing a public meeting at Ahmedabad in English. The fact that silence was associated with a dull vibe was felt wrong. ![]() It was tough to befriend silence, but it definitely wasn't impossible when those silences were comforting. But only in scenarios where words wouldn't do justice or wouldn't be valued. Silence was then looked upon and studied as one form of communication. Chaos is when such communication crossed its boundaries. Communication is the key to exist and operate in the world that we live in. Some that we get into, while some that we hear of. Noise is always associated with conversations. Given a choice, even silence could be a choice over such chaotic vibes. And one very strange thing was that though noises were comforting, noisy places weren't! Extremely noisy places, chaotic environments and loud music was a complete irritation and was never ever preferred. Not just that, visiting the such silent places even for a short while used to be troublesome and an immediate need to feel some noise and liveliness was felt. While some people surrounding me always used to study in libraries as they could concentrate in the quiet environment, I always needed the company of the usual sounds from the kitchen or doorbell that made me feel like home and proved easy for me to concentrate. This animosity with silence, needless to say continued even further. Growing up with people constantly being around, silence felt like an unwelcomed guest that made you feel uncomfortable! While noise on the other hand was such a normal companion that it created a natural comfort zone. Honestly, I used to dread this silence and the entire vibe around during the whole time such incidences took place. The students were supposed to keep quiet till there actually used to be pin drop silence in the room. I'm sure all of us have heard this phrase in school when amidst all chaos the teacher would finally say "pin drop silence".
